Baby Boomer Health Issues, Options and Solutions

Baby Boomer Health Issues

As a young man I never thought about health issues. Now as a baby boomer health issues are foremost on my mind. This is not unusual for those who go through life and come to a point that they realize that they must take good care of their health. Our health is really all we have and as we see it failing we want to do more to protect it. You may begin to have health issues or you see more and more health concerns in your friends, family and colleagues. So if you are a baby boomer or not when you realize you must take care of your health you begin to look for options and solutions to improve your lifestyle. Below are a few things you can do to prevent or reduce your risk of disease and take care of your body.

Baby Boomer Health Options and Solutions

There are five major things you can do to improve your health and prevent or reduce the risk of major disease. Everything are tied together so you must do all if possible.

  1. Eat Healthy: Eat a healthy low fat high fiber diet. Our diets have too much sugar, salt and fat. You can help yourself by eating at least 5 to 9 servings of fruit and vegetables daily, whole grains (versus processed foods) like oats and100%  whole wheat, nuts, seeds and beans. Avoid high fat processed meats, foods full of sugar and artificial sweeteners, and sodas.
  2. Drink plenty of water. One of the major issues for us baby boomers is that our digestive systems are not working at an optimal level. This can be corrected many times by a high fiber diet (lots of fruit and vegetables) and drink plenty of water.  Out bodies are made up of mostly water. Our cells as well as all of the systems in our body need water to function properly especially our digestive system. Water helps flush toxic waste from our bodies and helps keep us regular. If this does not work initially, try a herbal natural nutritional supplement to cleanse your colon and actually give you a total body cleanse. This should be done once a quarter to keep you regular, but this does not eliminate the need to drink plenty of water daily.  Many professionals say we should drink 8 glasses of water a day but that may vary based on your weight and physical activity. 8 eight ounce glasses is a good guide.
  3. Exercise Regularly. Daily physical exercise is very important for us. As we get older we slow down. We do not participate in sport or play so we must make sure we get at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day. This is so important for our health and weight. Our physical activity should include both cardiovascular and resistance training. Cardiovascular means heart (cardio) and blood (vascular). Approximately 50% of all deaths in America are due to heart disease. You can drastically reduce your risk of heart disease by eating healthy and exercising regularly. Cardiovascular or aerobic exercise helps your blood flow better and strengthens your heart muscle. Resistance training also strengthens your heart muscle, burns fat and build muscle mass that our bodies require. This does not mean you need to be an athlete or body builder to be a healthy baby boomer. A daily walk and 2o minutes or more of exercise at home will do wonders. The more you can do the better though. Your weight also plays an important part in your risk for heart disease, cancer, diabetes and many other diseases.
  4. Maintain a Healthy Body Weight: Lose weight if you have to lose weight. BodyMass Index is a tool to help you determine ideal weight. To lose weight eat healthy, exercise regularly and use natural nutritional supplements as part of your comprehensive weight loss program. We can write many articles to help you lose weight and they will always include these three general categories.
  5. Take herbal natural nutritional supplements: God created us to be vegetarians eating the fruit of every plant and tree of the earth. That means fruit and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans, herbs and spices. If we do not eat a variety of this natural food to give us all the vitamins, minerals, and nutrition we need, we should supplement our diet with natural nutritional supplements. What is important to you is different for what is important to me. Therefore, I would suggest you seek professional help.

In all we do professional help can enhance our results. Talk to you doctor, consider a personal trainer, speek to a nutritionist. All can help meet your personal goals and help you avoid baby boomer health issues and give you positive options.
