One of the things that I wrote about and strongly cautioned my readers against happened to us too. As we came in after visiting the doctor my wife got the mail and immediately got on the phone. I was in my office as I heard her get louder and louder. Not only did her voice raise, but the pitch got sharp and I felt the venom pour out. After that call it started over again in about five minutes. Her tone went from calm collected to… get out of the way you don’t want to get none of that!!!!!
So when she got off the phone and calmed down some I asked her what the problem was. She went on to explain that she ordered “Hydroxatone” rejuvenating beauty treatment through science, after seeing an infomercial and then hearing an add over the radio. That had a 9.95 special offer and then she was signed up for an auto-ship program. I have seen the packages around. Most were unopened. Some had the shipping box opened and the product not removed. I had no idea how long this has been going on. As I quizzed my wife her anger was transferred to me. When she took a breath, she said it has been almost a year.
Now for the last three months she has been fighting to cancel the program and product from being shipped. She found out the hard way that there was no direct customer service. They requested that she leave a message. She contacted her credit card company to dispute the bill explaining that she canceled the order and Capital One would do nothing without a cancellation number from the merchant. After three months of this my wife was outraged. I only found out because the rage boiled over to me.
I have mentioned this before when ordering weight loss products online, but it works with infomercials as well. Any time you order anything online or off stay away from the auto ship program unless you have had a relationship with the company and have talked to the customer service department yourself. We may get fooled by calling into a sales number or fulfilment center. Often they are not even the company. They are just contracted to sell the product.
No they got you. You are paying months after you meant to cancel. When you try to cancel the customer service is so poor that you can not get through. Even worse your credit card company is not honoring your request to not pay them. So what do you do.
The first thing I did is to contact the Federal Trade Commission to file a complaint. Next, we contacted the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney Generals office for our state. We entered complaints with each agency. Now I am doing my due diligence to track down Belleza Products, LLC in Hoboken, NJ to deal with them and put an end to this madness.
The moral of the story if it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true. That $10.00 great offer has cost us over $700 and lots of grief. Do not do an auto ship program with out first talking to customer service and getting to know the company first. This unscrupulous business practice puts a bad name on all marketers. Myself included. We will resolve this and I will let you know the outcome.
