God’s Word Teaches Us 7 Steps to a Healthy Lifestyle

God’s Word.

The Holy Bible, God’s Word, teaches us how to be healthy, live a healthy lifestyle and avoid disease. Therefore, diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, HIV aids,  and so on are caused by us not heeding God’s Word. It is interesting to note that in the beginning He created a world that had life giving health in all the food man ate. The food man ate was fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. What came from the ground was our food and there was no sickness. So why did we stop eating what and how we were commanded to eat? (In Genesis 1:29 we are commanded what to eat). We became a disobedient people. As a matter of fact every man has this flaw of disobedience and chooses to lean on our own understanding rather than to acknowledge God in all things, letting Him direct our path. Man wants to be in control and do it his way instead of humbly submitting himself to “God’s Will”.

The Promise of No Disease.

Exodus 15:26 says: “If you would listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and laws, then I will not make you suffer the diseases I sent to the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you”. So God gives us steps to a disease free healthy life. They are:

Step 1 – Listen Carefully.

The first step to a healthy lifestyle is to listen carefully to The Lord your God. This means we are to be attentive to God and his word. We are to listen carefully, paying attention to the details and be fully engaged in accepting and understanding his word. His word is both written and spoken. To listen carefully to the Lord means to pay attention and heed God’s spoken and written word.

Step 2 – The Lord Your God.

Is the Lord is your God? Do you have a relationship with Him and is he the master of your life. The promise for a healthy life is given to those who make the Lord their Master, having no gods before him and not serving two or many masters. No graven images, no sun, stars, or moon can give you life and life more abundantly, only a living Lord. The Lord who heals you. This is who you are to completely surrender too and allow to control you as the master of your life. The benefit is a healthy life free of disease.

Step 3 – Do What is Right in His Sight.

First we must try to do what is right.  Everyone does not have that as their goal, unfortunately. There is health in righteous living. The health comes from a stress free lifestyle. No stress. No drama. We are doing the right thing. Health also comes from eating and living right.

Secondly in “His” sight. This means not my will but yours. It also means we must know what is right in “His” sight to do it. We know his will through the bible, the spoken and preached word, prayer and meditation. Meditate on His Word Day and Night. Listen to still small voice. Be still and know that I am God. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path.

Step 4 – Obeying His Commands and Laws.

Once you hear as you carefully listen to Him, you must obey. Obedience to him is the action in our healthy lifestyle. Long life and health are a function of obedience. Jesus told the world that He is the Good Shepard and His Sheep Know His voice. Jesus says if you love me you will obey my commandments. Throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament it is clear that we are given commandments with promises and those promises are contingent on our obedience. This scripture even says Hear, Trust, Do, Obey and Then. It is not enough to listen carefully we must obey his commandments. We must do. Faith without doing what he says is not faith at all. Show me your faith I will show you my obedient works. Obedience is better than sacrifice.

Step 5 – What did God Command.

There are many things he told us. I believe the most important things are the first things he told us. Those first things were foundational to our eternal life and health. They were complete and needed nothing added to them. Upon our disobedience we needed to be guided back to the foundational complete commandments which are Genesis 1:28 and 29. Genesis 1:28 says be fruitful and multiply and take care of the earth that I am leaving to your care. Verse 29 goes on to say I am giving you fruits and vegetables and all that grows from the ground and its fruit to be your food. Obedience to these commandments (which are given to all mankind, not just the Hebrews and their descendants) are the key to our health.

Step 6 – Disobedience Equal Disease and Death.

The diseases bought on the Egyptians were a direct response to the disobedience to God. God said let my people go, Pharaoh refused, then disease. Over and Over again until He wiped them out as they went into the Red Sea. He tells us, we refuse, then disease and ultimately death. Yet obedience would mean no disease. Just as God so Loved the World that he Gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes on him would not parish but have everlasting life. Life and our health are based on obedience to His Word.

Step 7 – The Lord Who Heals You.

He promises no sickness if we are obedient. Yet he says I am the Lord who Heals you. Through His compassion he gives grace and mercy which are his unmerited favor and heals despite our disobedience. We can not earn life but we can be obedient which leads to health. But even if we fall, through his grace and mercy he is the Lord that heals you. This is the good news. This is the shouting moment.

Three Healthy Foods to Eat to Help to Prevent Cancer

Here are three healthy foods to eat to help prevent you from getting cancer. Add them to your daily diet. Today it is predicted that one third of the people in America will get one form of cancer or another in their lifetime.  I believe what Don Colbert, M.D. stated in his book, Walking in Divine Health, that 80 to 90% of cancer is preventable. Heart disease is the only disease that kills more people than cancer. Both heart disease and cancer are preventable by eating healthy and avoiding our toxic environment as well as unhealthy foods as much as possible.

So first we need to know what causes cancer. As an over simplification, cells in our body that are not properly matched electrons and they flow free looking for a connection. This DNA is matched  with environmental promoters like cigarette smoke, air pollution, alcohol or even the unhealthy food we eat. These “promoters” push the free radicals to connect with these unhealthy atoms to form irregular DNA Cells that may be cancerous.

Have you ever wondered why vegetarians have a much lower incidence of cancer or heart disease. Simply because the eat 25% less fat (no animal fat) and 50% more fiber (which helps the digestive system eliminate the toxic waste from our bodies). The same is true for third world countries in Africa, Asia and South America. The eat more fruit, vegetables and whole grain and less meat. Very close to vegetarian diets. In Japan they have a very low rate of cancer. Japanese Americans have nearly the same cancer rate as the average  American.  Essentially they eat the same diet. Americans have by far the highest rate of cancer than any other country. The answer is primarily in our diet and our lack of physical activity.

God has a plan to combat this cancer and frankly all disease. It is found in His first commandment to us. In Genesis 1:28 (paraphrased) God said be fruitful, multiply and have dominion – stewardship over my earth. In verse 29 he said (also paraphrased) I give you every seed bearing plant and every tree that has fruit with seed in it for food. I other words God gave us a commandment and the means to do His will by giving us the nutrition we need to nourish our bodies and overcome all diseases and obstacles. Yet we ignore God and figure we can do things our own way.

Another word that has recently gotten a lot of attention is antioxidants. When I was growing up it was just “eat your fruit and vegetables and don’t get up from the table until you do.” Now we ha the fancy science and scientific words to say “eat your fruit and vegetables and don’t get up from the table until you do.”

As promised here are three healthy foods to help prevent cancer.

Cruciferous Vegetables

Broccoli,  cabbage, cauliflower, collards and mustard greens to name a few. They all contain a type of antioxidant known as phytochemicals. These phytochemicals protect us prom the free radicals that cause esophageal (throat cancer), stomach, colon, prostate and breast cancers. Your mom always said eat your green veggies. Now you know one reason why.

Soy Foods

Soy milk, tofu and other soy meat substitutes, soy flour, soy protein and soy nuts all contain phytochemical antioxidants that help reduce the risk of breast, colon, stomach and lung cancers. We used to believe that milk was good for us. But we have since learned that whole milk from cows contain lots of fat, cholesterol and raw materials that produce estrogen. Excess estrogen are a cause of breast cancer. For this reason we encourage skim or low fat milk and low fat dairy products.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain lycopene which is a very potent phytochemical reduce the risk of developing colon and prostate cancers.

Here are three very powerful antioxidant foods that help you prevent and fight cancer. They should be added to your daily diet. They are not your only diet. Simply eat a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and beans. Limit your meat and choose low fat high fiber for your dietary needs. Avoid sugar and artificial sweeteners, as well as processed foods and you are well on your way to a healthy diet that help to prevent cancer.
