Healthy Weight Loss Program.

As we continue to do our best to live a healthy lifestyle and lose or maintain our weight we usually focus on eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly and taking nutritious vitamin supplements. These are the three most important factors in a healthy weight loss program. But, when it comes to losing weight many people believe that salt or sodium consumption may hinder it or even cause weight gain. So what causes us to lose or gain weight?

How to Lose Weight.

Effective and permanent healthy weight loss is simply burning more fat than we consume. This is an important yet simple definition because there are other things we do to gain or lose weight that are neither truly effective and or they are not permanent. Effective and permanent weight loss only happens with a reduction of fat.  A high sodium diet does not help reduce fat.

Salt and Healthy Weight Loss.

A diet high in salt or sodium will cause you to retain water. This water retention will cause you to gain water weight, but this is not permanent. Conversely, if you lower your sodium intake you can temporarily lose weight. This is simply a reduction of water weight which is temporary. Any diet or fast that focuses on reducing your intake of sodium and or increasing your consumption of potassium will cause you to have a quick short term loss of water weight. This may seem good and cause you to continue to purchase the pills or follow their diet, but this is not permanent.

High Sodium Diet and Your Health.

In reality high sodium diets are bad for you. Not for the temporary water weight that you might gain, but because the effect on your digestive system, blood pressure, cardiovascular system, immune system, etc. In general too much sodium is not good for your health. As a general rule people should consume less than 2400 mg of sodium daily. In fact the average American consumes over 3500 mg a day. So for your health make sure you read labels and limit the sodium you eat or drink to less than 2400 calories a day. You would even lose a couple of pounds quickly by reducing sodium intake to under 1800 mg daily. Your body only needs a daily dose of 400 mg to 800 mg  for optimum operation.

High Sodium Foods.

First you should get in the habit of reading labels paying attention to calories, fat, sugar and sodium. As for foods high in sodium avoid table salt, many canned foods (especially soups), fast foods, instant foods, MSG, Soy Sauce, and sport drinks. These are all known to have high content of sodium but read all labels. One other thing you can do to offset some of the effects of a high sodium diet is to add more potassium which will offset some of the negative effects. It is best to reduce your consumption of sodium while you add more potassium to your diet.

Healthy Weight Loss Program.

Ultimately our health is our most important commodity. We stay healthy and lose weight by burning more fat than we consume. You burn fat by regular exercise and taking nutritious vitamin supplements. By eating a healthy low fat, high fiber diet especially fruit and vegetables, 100% whole grains, nuts and beans you set yourself up for success to lose weight permanently, enjoy a long and healthy life and be the best that you can be.

Childhood Obesity

The studies are staggering that show the increase of obesity in American children. We are reaching pandemic numbers and without the efforts of President and Michelle Obama America would loose the most important battle that faces our nation and our economy. We would lose our health which there is no real recovery. Our health is the most important thing we have. Our health determines our happiness and longevity. We must do all we can to guard our health and the health of our future. The Health of our children.

Obesity Kills

No one dies from obesity, but when a person is obese they are more likely to have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer. Obese people suffer more joint pain, arthritis, back problems, and continual chronic health problems of all kinds. Reduce obesity and you reduce the cost of health care and reduce the federal and state deficits. Over 60% of all Americans are obese or just over weight. This is a trend that is unacceptable for our economy, our security and even our existence. As a Chicago Coach I am in the fight to help us control our weight and get in shape. So this is my Stimulus Plan to eliminate the epidemic of childhood obesity. We fight on multiple fronts.

Family Health Stimulus Plan

We need to bring back the days when parents demanded that children eat healthy because they made healthy meals for them to eat. I had to eat breakfast. There was no option to skip it. Breakfast was usually very healthy. I also had to finish everything on my plate, especially vegetables. So the first step to fight childhood obesity is within the home. Parents need to parent and also be an example. Parents should cook healthy meals including lots of fresh fruit and vegetables while they eliminate (or at least dramatically reduce) unhealthy snacks.  Replace them with fruit and nuts and other healthy snacks. Make sure the entire family drinks plenty of water everyday. How can you knowingly poison your kids and set them up for diseases because of the food you allow them to eat. We know that eating too much sugar kills. Unfortunately, sugar or worse yet high fructose corn syrup and other artificial sweeteners are in 90% of all processed foods. So we need to limit the processed foods we eat as well as too many sweets. Consult a local dietitian or other health and fitness professional like Chicago Coach to help you get back on a healthy track.

Family Activity Stimulus Plan.

Michelle Obama, in addition to families eating healthier we need to make sure we and our children are active. There was a time where most kids went outside and played. Today they sit at the computer or in front of the television for their social time. Even if they are playing games most are passive and require little physical activity. Parents need to actively increase childrens’ physical activity.  Make sure you children participate in some type of organized physical activity or create that yourself with other parents. Teach and model the importance of exercise and other physical activity. After all they learn from their parents and their environment.

School Stimulus Plan.

There is a financial crisis in our education system. This has spilled over to eliminating many extra curricular activities in public schools that help keep our children physically active. Remove programs to save money and spend the money elsewhere. Spend in in health care. Spend it in the prison system. Spend it in government entitlements. When we take money from education we will spend much more in other less desirable programs. That is another debate for another day. At the very least we should ensure the schools offers only healthy food choices. Today schools specialize in junk food and unhealthy processed foods with little or no nutritional value. This also provides long term negative health and education effects. These like other problems in our schools are exaggerated in lower income areas. Another debate altogether.

Government and Corporate Stimulus Plan.

Companies have financial incentive to proactive set up and support programs that help their workers and families to be more active and eat healthy diets to take better care of themselves. They lose man hours to sickness of the employee and there family. The government needs to take a more active roll in mandating that our food supply is healthy. I mentioned 90% of all processed foods are full of sugar, high fructose corn syrup and other artificial sweeteners. The government knows the dangerous effects to our health yet nothing is being done because of the profit to business. So to the First Lady I suggest she works on all fronts especially with legislation and regulation to help make our food choices more healthy. Sure we can say eat right, but if 90% of the food is not healthy what do you think the outcome will be.
