Healthy Eating and Weight Loss According to God

WHAT DOES GOD SAY ABOUT EATING HEALTHY?

God created man and He is the author of Healthy Eating. There were no overweight men or animals. In the six days that God created the earth he put natural laws in place to govern the world and made us stewards of His creation. After each day of creation God said it was good. Our stewardship is based on our obedience to Him and His laws. For example, there is a law of gravity. What goes up must come down. We have created airplanes, rockets, and even balloons to seemingly change or at least modify that rule. But let the airplane run out of fuel.

Even in our bodies there are laws in place. The original plan was for us and animals all to be vegetarians. Through the disobedience of Man that plan was altered. But the law was not changed. If we choose to eat things that go contrary to our bodies and the laws that God put in place the results are sickness, disease and eventually death.

Have you been to the doctor with a diagnosis of some disease and noticed the first thing he prescribes is a healthy diet. In most cases we are sick because of our poor diet and our sedentary lifestyles. We need to eat right, drink right and have regular physical exercise for our bodies to work properly and for us to fight the many toxins and impurities that enter our bodies.

So God first wants us to eat healthy. At least 60% (preferably 70%) of the food we eat should be fresh fruit, raw vegetables, whole grains, nuts and beans. This is along with herbs is plant food. You can truly have all of the nutrients you need without eating any flesh. Any protein needed is found in fresh fruit, raw vegetables, whole grains, nuts and beans. If you choose to eat meat, fish, or poultry, limit it to less than 10% of all calories you consume. This reduces the excess fat we get by over eating flesh. Of course all flesh would be lean if animals ate only plant as God intended according to Genesis 1:29.

FRESH FRUIT, RAW VEGETABLES, WHOLE GRAINS, NUTS AND BEANS ARE THE KEY TO WEIGHT LOSS AND HEALTHY EATING!

Why fresh fruit, raw vegetables, whole grains, nuts and beans? Fresh refers to organic with no pesticides and not canned, frozen, or processed in anyway. Raw includes fresh but adds uncooked. When fruit and vegetables are cooked they lose many of the vitamins and nutrients. Cook any plant over 120 degrees and all nutritional benefit has been destroyed.

When food is processed the nutritional value is processed out and that is why the grains in cereal, bread, and pastas are enriched. Even milk and juice have been vitamin fortified. The initial vitamin have been cooked and processed out.

There is no replacing the enzymes that have been cooked or processed out. Many times the enzymes found in fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and beans are as important if not more important that the specific vitamins. That is another reason why it is important to eat fresh and raw. As a fruit or vegetable is cut open they interact with air and the chemical reaction causes them to lose their nutrients. Cut an apple open, let it sit for 10 minutes and tell me if it begins to brown. This happens to all fruit and vegetables.

So we know that God Word says man was meant to eat fresh fruit, raw vegetables, whole grains, nuts and beans. The US government through the USDA has recently changed its food chart and recommends people eat 3-4 servings of fresh fruit and 4-5 servings of raw vegetables each day. That is a good start. The chart also lists beans as a meat with nuts and seeds (though they are a plant) and whole grains have their own section in pyramid of a balanced diet. What the chart or the USDA does not do enough of is to tell America and the world the risks involved eating processed food, refined sugars, food additives etc that are known to cause all sorts of diseases including cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity to name a few.

Maybe in moderation a lot of these things are not harmful, but years of overindulgence and a lack of knowledge among the general population have caused the American health care system to be overwhelmed. Though we spend more money than any nation on healthcare per person, there are 15 countries with a longer life expectancy than the Americans enjoy. The first reason is our diet.

So finally how do you follow God and eat healthy? Healthy eating is to have 60% – 70% or more of your food as fresh fruit, raw vegetables, whole grains, nuts and beans. Sure it is hard to eat 9 or more servings of fresh fruit and raw vegetables a day. Consider juicing. 2 cups of freshly juiced fruit or vegetables can account for 6-7 servings a day. Eat Healthy Salad and snack on fresh fruit, raw vegetables and nuts.

Weight Loss is Eating Healthy. To live longer eat healthier.

What is Healthy Weight Loss?

What is Healthy Weight Loss?

Fresh Fruit, Raw Vegetables, Water, Nuts, Beans and Whole Grains as the main ingredients of a healthy balanced diet are the keys to healthy weight loss. Yes, to lose weight we need to exercise, but the key to Healthy Weight Loss is what you put in your body.

If you put garbage in your body it does not all come out. Much of the garbage we put into our bodies festers, grows and contaminates our bodies. This garbage is manifested as excess fat and disease. So our first focus should be on what we put in our bodies. You will begin to see the pattern that effective dietary habits and weight loss are based on eating a balanced diet of the natural foods that God gave us from the beginning.

Fresh Fruit gives us energy, vitamins, minerals and nutrients. They are a good source of fiber and help keep our digestive system clean. Diseases are often caused by our digestive system not working properly and getting backed up. Or by us just over loading our bodies with junk. Our body then fights these intruders and our immune and other defenses are weak and easily give in to disease. Fresh fruit is what we should wake up to every day, being the major part of breakfast.

Raw vegetables are just as important as fresh fruit as the also give us energy, vitamins, minerals and nutrients. The green vegetables offer a lot of roughage which is great for digestion. We can not overestimate balance in our diet. Even balance in each category. It is not enough to eat a salad every day and assume you are getting the benefit of a healthy diet even though you may lose a little weight. First of all iceberg lettuce offer little nutritional value. Try romaine and spinach as well as other more colorful greens. Secondly, color diversity is a diversity in vitamins, minerals and nutrients and we do not need one type of raw vegetable to the exclusion of other types. The same thing goes with fruit. Color diversity equates to a balanced diet which helps weight loss.

Water is the most important part of our diets. many experts say drink 8 glasses per day. Other experts suggest you should drink half you body weight in ounces of water. If you weigh 180 pounds you should drink 90 ounces or 10 to 11 8 0z glasses of water per day. The message is the same drink plenty of water. Interestingly the benefits of drinking plenty of water are similar to eating fresh fruit and raw vegetables. Look at my article on drinking water for weight loss for more reasons to drink plenty of water every day.

Nuts, Beans and Whole Grains make up the balance of what God said we should eat. God said “I give you every seed bearing plant on the face of the earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.” (Genesis 1:29 NIV) Meat has become the substitute for nuts, beans and whole grains. Along with fresh fruit and raw vegetables they make up every seed bearing plant and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. Nutritionally; nuts, beans and whole grains provide the protein we get from meat. We should always eat whole grain breads and pastas versus processed foods that have stripped the nutrients, vitamins and minerals out and try to add some back in. Those they call enriched. Which would you prefer. Fresh and natural or stripped out and artificially added back.

Ultimately, God gave us the perfect menu to live long and healthy lifestyles. The choice is yours.

Be Blessed. Be a Blessing.
